Retail: New York: Hugo Boss

Hugo Boss in New York is one of the best retail designs I have ever seen. This store is not just a shop it is an experience. Set in the meat packing district which is a urban, industrial area, the shop has bought elements of this into its design. Having used the structural elements as the base of the design Thun has work around these and been true to materials.


As you can see in the picture above the main design feature of this shop is the floor to ceiling lattice made of white oak. The delicate endoskeleton is an unexpected visual contrast to the raw main space. Lighting designer A.J. Weissbard created a dramatic starry sky with small LED lights placed at strategic points along the lattice work. This can be programmed to create differently lit moods.
